FabMobile Tour in BiH: Over 500 Students Trained with Future Technologies

FabMobile, the first high-tech mobile laboratory in the Western Balkans, has launched its nationwide tour, bringing cutting-edge technologies straight into schools and local communities. The initiative, implemented by FabLab Bosnia and Herzegovina, is already delivering real results on the ground – with more than 500 high school students taking part in hands-on workshops.

The FabMobile tour is supported by funding from the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), through the Private Sector Development Initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After completing the technical setup of the mobile lab, FabMobile carried out visits to secondary schools in Bijeljina, Živinice, Tuzla, Gračanica, Prijedor and Gradiška during March 2026. The next phase of activities is planned for April and May 2026 as part of the FabMobile Youth Caravan initiative, during which the mobile laboratory will visit Teslić, Brčko, Busovača, Zenica, Vitez, Travnik and Novi Travnik.

This phase will further expand the reach of the initiative and give new generations of young people access to modern technologies and practical knowledge. All interested partners, development agencies, institutions, and the general public can follow the detailed schedule of upcoming visits and locations on the official platform tour.fablab.ba.

The workshops are designed as real learning-by-doing experiences, where students get the chance to use and test technologies already applied in today’s industry. The programme runs through five specialised stations: virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), digital fabrication, collaborative robotics, IoT systems, and an intelligent autonomous robotic platform. Through these activities, students discover concrete examples of how these technologies are used in different sectors, in line with their own educational paths.

Carrying out these visits confirms the importance of a modern, practical approach to education and skill development. By bringing technology directly into schools, the initiative helps reduce the gap between urban centres and smaller communities, while strengthening the connection between vocational education and the needs of the job market.

FabMobile was developed within the InnoXcellerate project, which is realised with co-financing from the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), through the Private Sector Development Initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and implemented by GIZ.

The goal of the project is to strengthen digital and green competencies and improve access to innovation, especially in areas with limited access to modern equipment and training. The project is part of the broader Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion in BiH (SEDEP) programme.
